Created in 1970, the SIAAP – Interdepartmental Syndicate for the Sanitation of the Paris Agglomeration – transports and depollutes rainwater and industrial water on a daily basis. The SIAAP employs 1,700 local civil agents in the 6 depollution plants in the Paris region, including the largest in Europe, Seine-Aval in the Yvelines.
Given its production processes, the Seine-Aval site is classified Seveso since 2010. Despite a modernisation of the plant aimed at improving its performance, the site has experienced a few industrial incidents. The latest to date, a fire in the “clarifloculation” unit in July 2019 which led M. Jacques Olivier, Managing Director of SIAAP to request an independent safety audit.
Despite the specific conditions in 2020, the safety culture audit was carried out in accordance with the initial planning. The audit helped SIAAP leadership to better acknowledge its current situation and to identify key actions to move towards a world-class safety culture and performance.
